Come on, we have all done it! Buying something on impulse in a foreign land only to regret it upon returning home. Popular examples of bad taste souvenirs I have seen in airports include big Sombreros, Spanish Decanters and big Donkeys with Sombreros on – stuffed toy ones, I hasten to add.
Well last night I gave my Galápagos illustrated talk to the RSPB Group in Wigan. The talk went very well, great audience, and they had a good laugh when I told them about the T shirt I bought on the islands. Pictured above, it proudly announces, ‘I LOVE BOOBIES’.
Well, Blue Footed Boobies are stunning seabirds on the islands and I thought nothing wrong in buying three Booby bird T-shirts in different colours, not seeing the double entendre at all!! Honest!!
I was brought firmly back to earth when I returned home and my sons said they wouldn’t be seen dead in a pub with me wearing the T shirts. So each time I give this talk I recall the anecdote and offer to sell my brand new, and unworn shirts. And guess what, a bloke last night offered to buy one!!
So for any keen ornithologists out there, I still have 2 ‘I LOVE BOOBIES’ T-shirts for sale, LARGE, in blue. Any takers?
