I am delighted that QUARK Expeditions have used one of the photos I took of a mother polar bear and her 6 month old cub from our 2011 North Pole trip, when I was the ship’s photographer. These magnificent animals are suffering greatly from the effects of global warming, particularly the loss of sea ice. Mortality rates among young cubs has risen to 48% from the previously average 18%, as they are being forced to swim large distances due to melting sea ice and this ice reduction also means the adults cannot hunt for seals.
